Where a seamless shell earns its keep.

Every one of these is a surface that has to hold liquid, take abuse, or both — and can't be out of service for a week while a coating cures.

Fuel sites

Gas stations & UST containment

Spill buckets and containment sumps. Spill buckets catch drips at the fill and vapor connections; dispenser, tank-top (STP) and transition sumps give access to piping and are designed to be liquid-tight [1]. Water intrusion through failed seals, cracks, corrosion and degraded boots is the usual reason they fail their three-year integrity test [1][2]. Spray polyurea, applied over a structurally sound and properly repaired sump, restores a continuous, chemical-resistant, liquid-tight interior in a single visit — and cures fast enough that the retest can follow as soon as the system's cure allows.

Forecourt and tank pads. Concrete at the dispensers and over the tank field takes fuel drips, road salt and freeze-thaw. A polyurea membrane seals the slab, bridges cracks and can carry a slip-resistant texture.

Canopy decks and roofs. Seamless waterproofing over metal or concrete canopy decks; aromatic base with an aliphatic topcoat where sun exposure matters.

Wash bays, trench drains and oil-water separator pits. Same problem, same answer: a monolithic liner with no seams to fail.

Compliance clock

  • Spill buckets and monitored sumps: liquid-tightness test at least every 3 years under 40 CFR 280.35 [2]. Maryland tests spill buckets annually [5]; PA and NJ every 3 years [3][4].
  • Any repair to spill/overfill equipment or secondary containment: test within 30 days (40 CFR 280.33) [2].
  • Repairs must follow a manufacturer method or a nationally recognized code of practice (e.g. PEI RP1200 for testing) [2][6].
  • State-certified individuals are required for the work and the test in PA, NJ and MD [3][4][5].
Industrial

Secondary containment & tank linings

Dikes, berms, pits and sumps. Concrete containment cracks, joints open, and the coating that was supposed to hold a spill is the first thing to fail. A spray polyurea membrane at 60–125 mils bonds to the concrete, bridges joints and cracks, and gives a single seamless surface with published resistance to fuels, oils and many acids and alkalis [7][8].

Tank interiors and exteriors. Steel and concrete tanks for fuel, wastewater and process water — blasted, primed and lined to the manufacturer's immersion guidance [7][8]. Manufacturer case work shows tank retrofits completed in days rather than weeks because the liner cures in minutes [9].

Manholes, wet wells and lift stations. Hydrogen-sulfide and abrasion resistance with no seams.

Why not epoxy here?

Epoxy is rigid. Containment structures move with temperature and load, and every crack in the epoxy is a leak path. Polyurea's elongation lets it move with the structure, and it can be sprayed in the cold and damp conditions that stop epoxy work in the Mid-Atlantic for half the year [8][10].

Warranty terms are set per project. For reference, the national bed-liner franchises' lifetime warranties cover consumer pickup beds only; commercial and industrial work is warranted job by job [11][12].

Farm gear lives in the worst of it: fertilizer, manure, road salt, gravel, feed acids and weather. Polyurea is the same seamless, chemical-resistant shell used on containment sumps — sprayed on the parts that rust, chip and wear out first.

Mower decks & undercarriages

Chip and corrosion protection under zero-turns, finish mowers, bush hogs and tractor frames — the surfaces gravel, wet grass and salt eat first. Sprayed at 60+ mils it takes rock strikes without cracking and washes off clean.

Spreaders, sprayers & implements

Fertilizer spreaders, sprayer tanks and frames, plows, discs and buckets: polyurea is rated to resist fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides, diesel and hydraulic fluid, and gives extreme abrasion resistance on soil-contact steel [A].

Truck beds, dump bodies & livestock trailers

Seamless, non-slip, washable liners for pickups, dump trailers, stock and horse trailers — no seams for manure and urine to sit in, and no rattle [A][B].

Barn floors, alleys & milking parlors

Waterproof, chemical-resistant floors and curbs that stand up to animal waste, wash-down and hoof traffic, with a slip-resistant texture [C].

Grain bins, silos & feed bunks

Waterproofing and corrosion protection for bins and silo walls; seamless liners for feed bunks and hoppers where feed acids attack concrete [A][C].

Water troughs, tanks & manure pits

Liquid-tight liners for troughs and storage tanks, and containment membranes for manure pits and lagoons. Formulations exist that are rated for potable-water and food-contact service [A][C][D].

Why it holds up on the farm. 100% solids with no solvents, elongation that moves with steel and concrete through freeze-thaw, and a service range of -40°F to 230°F [E]. Industry sources cite 25–30 year service life for polyurea versus 2–10 years for conventional paint and epoxy on farm equipment — trade claims, not test data, but consistent across suppliers [A].

Also within reach

Polyurea systems are published for marine decks and hulls, blast-mitigation coatings on walls and vehicles, pond and lagoon liners, and encapsulation of lead paint or asbestos [7][14]. If the job is unusual, ask — the material is more versatile than the truck-bed reputation suggests.
